If fishes were allowed to swim…

Albert Einstein once said, ” Everybody is a genius. But if you ask a fish to climb a tree, it will lead it’s whole life believing that it is stupid.”

And today, that fish is not just being asked to climb a tree, it is being asked to climb down again and then go for a 5 kilometre sprint too. And you might be wondering whom does the fish refer to?Sadly, that fish today is us, all of us.

Ever since we were born, we were  expected to climb trees,i.e excel in school, excel in college, excel at work, etc. But doesn’t anyone understand that fishes aren’t meant to do that. Sure, some may be birds. But what about the rest.

Every person has different strengths, different needs, different interests, different dreams. Some are painters, some are singers, some are good with numbers, some are astounded by the cosmos. But the system in which they are, ensures that the fins of these fish are brutally clipped off and replaced by imaginary wings.

Children are trained right from their infancy to pursue careers that are remunerative. But what about the interests of that human being. Probably, the next Picasso now works at an IT back office in some obscure setting and the next Aryabhatta is wasting his time in the cockpit of a commercial airplane.

Everybody is a victim of this charade of a system that we call The Education System. It teaches us to be in line, speak when asked to, eat when allowed to and infact, express only when it wants us to. There is no respect for the spirit of humanity. Fishes are taught to climb trees but  tested by asking them to run a 100m race. This is our evaluation system.

No regard for talent. No regard for creativity. No regard for knowledge. You are judged on the basis of how much matter you recollect of what you read on the previous day. Appalling, isn’t it. It is the death of understanding- slow but one which is certain. It needs an urgent overhaul before it is too late.

Come now, let’s tend to the needs of the fishes. Let’s give them a system which allows them to dream. A system which helps them in getting to the path that they wish to tread on. Because, they may be 30% of the present population but they are 100% of the future. This is the world I believe in – a world where no fish is ever asked to climb a tree.

Why We Lose

Don’t be afraid
To take the risks,

Opportunity only knocks

Where there is something you miss.
You want to succeed

You really do,

But you do nothing

To make it true.
You want respect

Glory and fame,

But how will you

When you are so tame.
You say you will try

But you never do,

There is a reason

Why you lose.

Why we do, what we do !

What do you do when you receive your paycheck ? You spend. You invest. You can do whatever you want to do- the whole world is yours.
Well, what did I do?

Kept half for me and distributed the half amongst my family –

Dad- not willing to take it at first, then taking it ceremoniously and again returning it back. It took a lot of convincing from me and mom before he finally placed it in his wallet. His face full of pride and eyes full of glory.

Mom- accepts it at once with grace and showers her blessings. Well, she earned that what she received. It has been her long cherished dream to spend money that her sons earn and even told the things she would buy out if it. #Mom things

Brother- well, obviously he earns more than me (infact he mints money even when he sleeps😋) so he refuses to accept the petty part of the already petty stipend that I earn and asks for the whole of it. But eventually, contents himself with the meagre amount. I’ll take a treat later on to square it off though !

Finally, I am left with my part. And what did I do? Initially, I tried helping an old man get some breakfast but he was too drunk for his own good . Then, I changed plan – I fed three children who were hungry (for I dont know how much amount of time). Seeing the happiness on their face and their mother’s was amazing. And what did it cost ? Not even a sum as paltry as a hundred rupees.

This brings us to the question – why did I do it? It’s simple, I did it because I am able to. Sometimes in life, we should do things not to get any particular benefits but just for the joy of doing it. The smiling “thankyou” that I received was worth more than the amount spent on purchasing foodstuff for them.

One more important thing- I did not want to write about any of this and would have loved to keep it off records but I have to write it down. I don’t want to brag about it. However, even if one person gets inspired and follows the suit, I think the purpose of this blog will be accomplished.

Remember, Karma has only one rule: what you do now, you will get it back later. So, next time whenever you see someone, who really needs a helping hand, DON’T hesitate because money spent on humanitarian causes is better spen,  than money spent on all the things we actually spend it on ( I don’t want to jot that list down😂😋).

” What goes around, comes around”.

Why do we fall?

There has been no person on this planet, since the day the sun first dawned upon humanity, who hasn’t fallen once. The Kings were dethroned and Dictators died. Governments were overturned and tyrants buried alive.  There are many variants in which people fall such as rise and fall, fall and rise, fall and keep falling, fall and rise and fall again. People are falling all the time –  from grace, from power, from prestige, and sometimes they simply fall on the ground while walking.😂

There is a universal truth that goes something like-try and try till you succeed and that if we keep practising, we will eventually succeed. And, till the time this world rotates around the sun, nobody can ever change these facts. This means that to achieve success, one has to fall and keeping falling until he eventually succeeds or gives up… And I can continue with this nonsense for as long as my battery dies. But we are not here for that .

The truth is- we fall because there is no one who gives us a firm support at times when we most require it. We fall because hatred and jealousies find their way between us and our support. We fall because we blindly believe- believe such false people who don’t want us to rise and shine. We fall because we weaken our strong old bonds for new attractive yet shallow bonds, so much so that the old bonds finally manifest themselves into no bonds.

However, all is not so grim as it appears to be. Falling has its good parts too. It is only during such testing times, that we are able to broaden our outlook towards life and living. We realise who our true well wishers are, the ones that really care.  Also, we are able to understand that life is not all butterflies and roses. Most of all falling gives us HOPE. And everyone knows it ‘ Hope is good thing, maybe the best of the things’.

Last but not the least- ” we fall so that we can learn to pick our selves up”.wy_do_we_fall_down,-127788.jpg

A different perspective

I wonder, I wonder ..what would you do, if you  had the power to dream, at night, any dream you wanted to dream..” -Alan Watts.

And from here, I would start all those different perspectives.

An optimist would dream about success in his life. A  great man would dream about doing something greater that might earn him an ageless place in history. A satisfied man would dream of continued happiness and peace. A leader  would sweven about power and fame. A failure would dream about his glorious past and happy memories(if any). A sick man would  dream about a healthy life. A young man would dream about an adventurous life which is fulfilling to the core. Still some might create alternate universes in their dreams- a place where they rule (for however short time it may be before eventually waking up to the mediocrity of their daily lives).

However, the fundamental problem underlying this facade of dream world is that everyone ONLY dreams. Very few really pursue their dreams. But seriously speaking, has dreaming ever helped in reaching that future. Sure it gives the initial push, but there is no other alternative to capitalise on it other than Hard Work and only Hard Work.

Ironically, we live in a world where people earn their bread and butter by deciphering other people’s dreams(no offence). But I strongly believe that if dreams signify anything, then it is this that- wake up and start working towards it. Someone wonderfully summed it up – ” Sapna woh ho jo sone na  de ” which roughly translates to ‘ dreams should be such that they don’t let you sleep ‘.

If properly moulded, dreams have a power of connecting people. Take for example our freedom struggle. Hadn’t it been a dream of few people with independent thoughts, we would still be slaves to foreigners (there is some solace now- we are slaves of our own people😕). But the unquestioning point is – Dreams are a very potent measure for solving all the troubles of mankind. If one can dream it, he can surely attain it.

To conclude, dreams are like those proverbial far away flames that helped the poor man to pass the night in the middle of the freezing river. They do have the power to create history, but very few know it and now you have been added to that illustrious list. Thank me later …PS. Day Dreaming is not Dreaming!!😂
Note- your thoughts may differ, and hence the title !

The Beginning…

Hello fellow spectator,

My name is Shrey Sanjay Chheda aka The Silent Spectator . I have multiple reasons for starting this blog . It helps to convey our feelings , so as to say 😋. It also helps in improving vocabulary. But most of all, it helps in nurturing my desire to capture the world around me and store it in the form of words. These words form memories-  memories that can be relived again tomorrow , day after or even after fifty years .

So adieu for now .. hope to capture some mesmerising thoughts by the time I start writing my first actual blog . So long !
